Berge: Street lighting is being renewed

Work on Olper Straße starts in the first half of May

Berge. In Berge, the street lighting on the 1.2 kilometre long Olper Straße is being completely renewed. In future, 27 new, 8 metre high lighting points will provide brightness. They will replace 21 outdated whip poles which, at a height of 7.5 metres, date back to 1970 and have therefore exceeded their normal service life in street lighting.

Another reason for the replacement: for legal reasons, it is no longer possible to procure new light sources for the ones currently in use, which means that the maintenance intervals cannot be continued and the light sources cannot be replaced at regular intervals.

This is a road improvement measure by the district and university town of Meschede, which is the owner of the street lighting systems in the entire urban area. Following the abolition of road improvement contributions for local residents, the costs are subsidised on a pro rata basis by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The remaining costs are borne by the district and university town of Meschede.

Hochsauerlandwasser GmbH (HSW) is responsible for the new planning and installation as the operator of the street lighting in the towns of Meschede and Olsberg and in the municipality of Bestwig. The new lighting points in Olper Straße in Berge will be equipped with modern, energy-saving LED technology. "The bottom line" is that this will result in energy savings of around 30 per cent in the operation of the street lighting along the entire street.

The construction work will start in the first half of May and is expected to take three to four weeks. During this time, there may be short-term disruptions to access to properties. HSW asks all neighbours for their understanding.

Interested parties can view the current construction schedule on the homepage of the town of Meschede at www.meschede.de in the News section. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the technology and construction of the street lighting, please contact the HSW team on 0291/99200.
